5 great post-workout snacks

I’m sure that you know the right snack before your workout is important.

But what about after? Is it that important too?

 In short: yes.

You need to eat after you’ve pumped iron, or run a few miles to replenish muscle tissue and glycogen stores.

So, to help we’ve put together a list of some snack foods that are ideal after you’ve completed your session.

Biltong

You may not have heard of Biltong, but it’s a great after workout snack.

Firstly, what is it?

Biltong is a South African snack food of cured meat. Think of jerky, but a little thicker, and with a slight difference in flavour.

So why’s it good after a workout? Well it’s an excellent source of protein. And protein helps you rebuild those muscles!

Be careful though, some manufacturers pack it with salt. Keep your eye out for biltong that has minimal fat and salt content.

Here at Biltong 2 U we have a range of different cuts and flavours so whatever your pallet, you’ll find something you’ll like.

Yoghurt and berries

Pick out some Greek yoghurt (it contains 50% more protein that standard yoghurts) and buy (or pick your own) fresh berries. That’ll provide you with the carbs to sustain your energy.

A tasty snack that’s perfect after a sessions at the gym.

Dried fruit and nuts

Nuts are packed with protein. But they’re a little dull on their own, aren’t they?

To make sure that you get a mix of salty and sweet throw some dried fruits in there too.

You don’t need to eat a lot of nuts either. A small handful should be enough!

Fruit smoothie

Grab yourself some frozen fruit; skim milk, low fat yoghurt, and some protein powder to make a fruit smoothie.

Not only will it taste great, but it’ll really help your body after the workout too.

Pizza!

‘Hold on, I’m trying to stay healthy!’

I know, but pizza can be a great post-workout food when done properly.

You’ll obviously want to keep the pepperoni out of the equation. Use low-fat cheese, and lots of vegetables for your topping.

Don’t go overboard either. You don’t need to eat the whole thing. One or two slices should be enough to revitalise you.

So, the next time you’ve finished your workout try one of the above.

Eating well doesn’t have to be boring!
